Why I founded Funkelino: Safe children's jewelry made with responsibility

My name is Florian, I'm 43 years old, a father of two, and a graduate engineer. And today I want to talk about something that's really close to my heart: why Funkelino even exists.

Funkelino is not "just another shop for children's jewelry". Funkelino was born out of experience – and from the moment I realized: You can't compromise when it comes to children's products.

The trigger: Too much junk on the market

I've been an entrepreneur for over 10 years and have supported, evaluated, and improved many products with my first shop. Unfortunately, we've repeatedly encountered things that have alarmed me as both a father and a product engineer:

  • Red earlobes and skin reactions caused by questionable materials
  • Far too stiff necklaces without a safety mechanism – posing a real risk of strangulation.
  • Products that look cute but ignore basic safety regulations
  • And yes: Even with "harmless" things like pacifier chains, a lack of consideration can quickly become a risk.

The problem is: children only make mistakes once. And some mistakes can't be undone. This is precisely the idea that sparked Funkelino.

Why Funkelino is different

Funkelino was born from a very clear ambition: children's jewelry should bring joy – but never worry.

That's why we at Funkelino focus on three key points:

My perspective: Product engineer & dad

As a product engineer, I automatically think in terms of risks, tests, standards, and quality. As a dad, I think about something else: trust.

Funkelino didn't emerge "out of nowhere." It's the next step after many years of experience – with the clear goal of building a shop that's exclusively for children and takes children's jewelry seriously.

Almost 9,000 products – and yet we still listen.

Today we already have almost 9,000 jewelry products and designs in the shop – and yet Funkelino remains “alive”: New designs are constantly being added.

Our own children also love jewelry – especially animal motifs . And that's exactly the joy we want to pass on: a favorite little motif that a child wears proudly – ​​and parents who feel good about it.
